This place was a complete contrast to bustling Delhi..and it was only around noon that we checked into our hotels..we had a short ride on a horse driven cart to the Jalianwala Bagh and it was great fun..( sorry ms. maneka gandhi..) this place sort of stirs up the patriotic verve in us.. and even the bullet marks on the walls were carefully preserved. The Golden Temple was our next destination ..and though im no big fan of gold..it was captivating..we were just in time to watch the parade at the wagah border..and the cheer leader tried his level best to keep the crowd engaged ..Pakistan-just a few hops away..the land which was once a part of our great nation..you could actually feel a lump in your throat.. one of my friends tried to test his multi lingual skills and ordered “chaar cup paal”(4 cups of milk) and we ended up getting tea..!we shopped around for a while at night and it was here that a few of us got some nice pairs of coolers( sorry the prices are too embarassing to quote..) .

qutub142.JPGwe were lodged at a hotel in karolbagh and our first visit was to birla mandir..the place looked neat and well maintained but we missed the carnival atmosphere that we have come to associate with south indian temples..then we moved on to qutub minar where we discovered that ruins too can be beautiful..great spot for those who wish to take some cool snaps..we had a whale of a time….we halted next at the lotus temple..and the place is an architectural marvel..around evening we visited rajghat where gandhiji was laid to rest and one chirpy friend of mine was patriotic enough to shout..”jai bhagat singh”!around 7 p.m we visited india gate which looked bright with all those heavy lights..due to lack of time,we were forced to have glimpses of the parliament and important embassies from our bus seats..and as we were waiting to board the buses to amritsar, our eyes fell upon a beautiful girl standing in the streets, and just as she became our topic of discussion,to the amusement of a few( and to the heart-break of a most -like me),we discovered that among traffic lights, her most preferred choice was RED( sorry folks, since i am a responsible blogger with concern for kids who might chance upon this, i cant be more explicit..! i hope the adults get the finer meaning..!)

TOUR DIARY

train3.jpgIt has been quite sometime since my last blog, thanks to a wonderful trip to most places in north india..a college tour..about 90 of us from my dept(cse) had a fantastic time visiting places like delhi, amritsar, chandigarh, kulu manali, shimla, agra etc..
dec 25,2006-day1 -train journey.. we began the eventful journey at 7 15 p.m on an auspicious note by seeking the blessings of an eunuch( who made us part with rs 10 each) n by the time me n a few others could find proper seats it was almost 9 30..to make it even more worse the pantry downed the shutters.A few girls were generous enough to give us what they had brought from their homes(a big thanks to their mothers) and soon a pack of 10 hungry wolves almost devoured almost all that they could lay their hands on( common..! we were civilized enough to return the containers..!)the next day was almost entirely spent playing cards and dumbcharades..and mr.srikanth(”logic”) was so intense in guessing the name of a film that he made a statement that had us in splits.. listen to this for a quote..” ‘ma’ is the first part of two splits of the first word out of 2 words..!”..by the time it was 2 in the night most of us were shivering and now it was me who was at the receiving end when i asked..” enda ellarum ippadi kulurareenga??( a desperate attempt to ask ” enda ellarum kulurla olarareenga”..)..and to round off the train journey it was now the turn of another transvestite to mint money from us ..and when mr.vignesh(vikki) tried to escape her attnetion.. the hijra yelled..” what hero?? would you not give your due..??!
watch this space for more updates about the tour..
